I see Judy Chicago as the patron saint of Feminist art. Judy Chicago stands out in my mind because she is the first person I think of relating to Feminist art and the first person I learned about in Feminist art. The first piece of art I've seen of hers is The Dinner Party and I was completely blown away. This 576 x 576 in. triangular installation is a profound piece of feminism art. “The Dinner Party comprises a massive ceremonial banquet, arranged on a triangular table with a total of thirty-nine place settings, each commemorating an important woman from history” (The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago). Every set table is a table specifically for an important woman from history whose names aren't all well known due to the fact that important women from history weren't popularized. The settings consist of embroidered runners, gold chalices and utensils, and china-painted porcelain plates with raised central motifs that are based on vulvar and butterfly forms and rendered in styles appropriate to the individual women being honored” (The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago). Judy Chicago thought about every single detail down to the runners, utensils, plates. She even had vulvar shapes relating to feminism motifs. Everything was well thought out and created so particular and perfect. When I went to the Brooklyn Museum to see this installation, I was there walking around the installation for so long. There was so much to look at and admire. Every place setting is so different and I loved seeing the unique qualities in all of them. I went around to each place setting and read every single name. It was kind of overwhelming because there were so many names that I didn't recognize which proves a great point of why she created this installation. Judy Chicago herself is such a feminist. You can see it just from her strong yet goofy personality. She is unapologetically herself in every single one of her interviews.
